History
Tern Boatworks was established in 2004 by owner Bruce Thompson. Tern Boatworks is a small company that aims to keep the tradition of Nova Scotia boatbuilding alive. The yard is located at the Gold River Marina in Chester Basin, Nova Scotia and specializes in the new construction and restoration of wooden boats, as well as those built in composites. At Tern Boatworks we pay close attention to detail and strive to provide the highest level of craftsmanship.
Tern Boatworks has completed several major projects to date, including:
- a complete rebuild of a 46-foot, 1907 Original Herreshoff launched in 2007
- a 23-foot Bluenose Sloop launched in 2008 and
- the complete construction of a 34-foot International One Design launched in 2009.
The company is currently working on several projects, including:
- a 38-foot lobster yacht, constructed from a bare hull; and
- rebuilding a 30-foot racing sloop

Awards
In June 2009, Tern Boatworks was awarded the Company Growth and Development Award, for significant investment in training, quality systems and facilities, by the Nova Scotia Boatbuilding Association.
